Ghosts

Raina Telgemeier's Ghosts has to be one of my favorite graphic novels.
Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier book coverWhen Catrina's family moves to the spooky seaside town Bahía de la Luna, she's positive that she's going to hate it. But Maya, Cat's little sister, has cystic fibrosis and the sea air will benefit her lungs, so Cat sucks it up and stays quiet. When Cat and Maya meet their neighbor, Carlos, they discover that there is something weird about their town: there are ghosts in Bahía de la Luna. Maya is elated, but Cat's doubtful. This isn't something she wants anything to do with, but she's going to have to cope with it--for her sister's sake. The story ends in a celebration of Día de los Muertos--complete with real muertos. The story celebrates the Mexican culture in the United States with beautiful illustrations and colors.
I loved this book! I love Raina's cartoony art style and the colors in this book are amazing (as you can see below!) The book is a perfect comfortable blend of fantasy, with the ghosts, and realistic fiction, as Maya struggles with her breathing problems.
